The Trades Union Congress has alleged that backdated salaries as recommended by the Ntiamoah-Badu committee on emoluments have already been paid to the wives of both the President and Vice President. In a statement issued by the Labour union, its Secretary-General revealed that as part of their checks  they have found that the salary arrears which were  backdated from 2017 have been paid

” salary arrears dated back to January 2017 have since been paid to the wives of President Akuffo Addo and Vice President Bawumia, in accordance with the committee’s recommendation which was approved by NDC and NPP members of Parliament”, TUC General Secretary Yaw Baah noted.

The Trades Union Congress has therefore asked the President to ensure that all such payments are refunded immediately.

The TUC argues that the wives of the President and Vice President have not been assigned any responsibilities or duties and as such are unqualified to receive salaries from the public purse.

The issue of salaries for the Spouses of the President and Vice President has generated public outcry with many criticizing politicians for being insensitive and reckless with expenditure.
