First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Samira Bawumia Decline Salaries After TUC’s Allegation That The Monies Have Already Been Paid
First lady Rebecca Akuffo Addo and Samira Bawumia, the Second lady have both declined a move to formally pay them salaries as part of recommendations by the Ntiamoah-Badu Presidential Committee on Emoluments
This follows reports by Pro-government media house Asaase radio. The report which cites various sources inside the Presidency says the spouses have made known their decision to the Presidency
The decision according to the sources suggests that the two have been carrying out their duties and responsibilities without any established remuneration even before the recommendations of the committee and secondly out of respect for the public outcry the matter has generated.
Another source also suggests that the two have refuted any involvement in the decision reached by the committee on emoluments. The two according to insiders are” uncomfortable about the disturbance the issue is causing particularly in the political space and are unwilling to accept the structured remuneration”/
Multiple suits have been filed at the supreme court to challenge the decision by the emoluments committee. This could come as a great relief to most Ghanaians who were originally incensed by the decision. It comes at a time the country’s largest labour organization the Trades Union Congress issued a statement alleging that the payments had already been made and urging the President to reverse the payment.
