Ghana Gov’t Makes Great Strides As It launches Digital service, Payment Platform to Help Curb Corruption
The Ghana government has today launched a digital service and payment platform for the public in a bid to avoid bribery and corruption in the country.
Vice President, Dr. Mahamadou Bawumia launched the platform named “Ghana.Gov Account,” Ghanaian Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia said it will save the government 3 billion Ghana Cedis (about 506 million U.S. dollars) annually since it will prevent theft and embezzlement.
According to him “the platform is an important milestone in the digitization of Ghana’s economy as well and helps save the country revenue loss due to bureaucracy in the old system as well as the engagement of middlemen who deny the country its due revenue,” said Bawumia.
“Transactions will be recorded instantly to avoid the risk of embezzlement within the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies as well as other government agencies,” said the vice president.
The move, he said, is novel as the government is committed to providing a stress-free payment and revenue collection platform for Ghanaians as they access government services.
“Making payments from one office to the other would be a thing of the past and we would continue to ensure the digitization of Ghana’s economy,” said Bawumia, adding that financial inclusion for all citizens is also essential to accelerate economic growth.
