Ghana To Witness Another Election Petition Case As NDC Challenges Election Results AT Supreme Court
Lawyers for NDC Presidential Candidate, John Mahama have today filed a petition at the supreme court challenging the eligibility of the 2020 election results. According to a statement released by the party and signed by Party General Secretary, Johnson Aseidu Nketiah the decision to go to court was sanctioned by flagbearer of the party, John Dramani Mahama. “The leader and Presidential Candidate of the party, H.E John Dramani Mahama, caused his lawyers to file a petition at the supreme court of Ghana to challenge the 2020 Presidential Election results declaration by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana
The NDC has been agitating for weeks now since the declaration of the election results by Madam Jean Mensah, citing serious violations of the 1992 constitution by the electoral commission.
This will be the second time an election petition is being filed at the supreme court. President Akufo Addo in 2012 also challenged the results of the election which was won by John Mahama but after several months of litigation, John Mahama was confirmed by the courts as having won
The party has also named ,Hon Marietta Brew Appiah- Oppong, former Attorney General and Minisiter of Justice, Hon Dominic Ayine,Dr Abdul Basit Bamba, Alex Segbefia, Abraham Amaliba, Sammy Gyemfi , Kakra Essamuah, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe as spokespersons of the election petition case.
