Owner of Melcom, one of Ghana’s leading retail chains, is reportedly dead from Coronavirus.

Mr Bhagwan Ramchand Khubchandani is said to have passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021 at the Nyaho Medical Centre in Accra.He was born on October 30, 1937 and spent a larger part of his life in Ghana.

A leading retail department outlet with about 48 retail centers, Melcom has over the years progressed into six separate companies under a parent company Melcom Group of Companies.He adds to the list of high profile personalities who have recently died of Covid. The deadly coronavirus has reportedly claimed the lives of as many as ten Ghanaians including former National Security Coordinator, Joshua Kyeremeh in the last few weeks. Pressure Group Occupy Ghana and the Ghana Medical Association have recently called on the government to ban all social gatherings with immediate effect

Management of the Nyaho Clinic has taken a decision to refer all Non-Covid cases to other hospitals in a bid to contain the rising cases of  Covid patients currently being reported to the hospital.  In a Memo titled ‘Update on Clinical Operations’ and copied to all directors on Monday, January 18, the Medical Director of the facility said the hospital has had to reactivate its business continuity in view of the rising cases in covid-19. The situation has led to acute shortages of beds for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.
