Meet Elton Afari, CEO of Equity Health Who Is Changing The Face of Private Health Insurance In Ghana
Equity Health Insurance is an indigenous private-owned Ghanaian business that was established in 2017 by Elton Frederick Afari. The company was set up to improve access to primary health care through the provision of excellent patient-centric services. He is especially passionate about this cause as mismanagement at the primary level leads to the loss of life. According to Mr. Afari, the rationale behind the business is, “To provide quality, accessible and convenient healthcare for all Ghanaians in a timely and cost-effective manner.”
Mr. Afari, a qualified marketer for more than 15 years, graduated from the University of Ghana Business School with a Master’s Degree in Marketing and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the Nobel International Business School, He says his career as an insurance expert has never been disappointing..
After three years of active participation in the health insurance market, Equity health is building an impressive brand and gradually changing the face of Ghana’s health insurance industry. Mr. Afari has in the last few years of his professional career been decorated with several awards including the Professional Services category in the forty under forty achiever awards, Unsung Hero Award for private health category amongst others.
Equity Health prides itself on the friendliness of its staff and the community it serves. After launching, Equity Health added more services at the request of their customers. These include EQUITY SHEA, EQUITY OAK, EQUITY MAHOGANY, and EQUITY ROSEWOOD.
All four products have been designed to offer comprehensive medical care to members, which include but are not limited to hospital consultations, surgeries, dental care, maternity, prescribed drugs, and optical care.

The business started with 15 employees and has now grown to 22 workers with representatives in 16 regions of Ghana.
With a 24-hour operational healthline that puts clients in touch with trained professional health insurance agents, Equity also provides each insured company with an Account Manager who serves as a liaison with Health Service Providers.
Prior to starting the business, the proud father of 3 worked with Vodafone Ghana, Cosmopolitan, Pravda Radio now vision One. He also set up his own facility management company, UJS, worked with Acacia Health Insurance, and had been practicing in the health insurance industry for over 10-years. With hard work and dedication Equity healthcare is becoming a household name in the insurance market. The company which started in 2017, received regulatory approval in 2020
